First Semester=Almost Over and I have to say that I am relieved. I need to get a bunch of things straight and ready for next semester. Right now I'm scrambling around to get things done. My last project for Digital 1 is to do "A Day in the Life" and it's like a photo journalism project and I've still shot nothing. ugh, I'm just at a loss for an idea. I know I will think of something but I have to stop this procrastination stuff. Oy!
I finally did my portrait assignment and I took some pictures of my friends in a store acting like children and this shot was my winner

The End
Soooo we are nearing the end of the semester and I feel like I have a ton of things going on. So many projects due, the holidays to get through...oy! Yesterday I went to the ICP in the city. It was an interesting experience. I can honestly say that the majority of the photos were just that to me, a photo. The section that had the Bazarr photographs were really good but it wasn't until I got to a section where they were showing an exhibit on 9/11 photographs that I was really moved. The photos were strong and they brought me to tears. All in all it was a fun experience. The city was crazy though. Not my favorite place in the world. Today and tomorrow I have to embark on two photo shoots for my class. One for portraits and one for A Day in the Life. I wanted to shoot Wall Street but I never made it there. We will see. My last project was to shoot makeup and theses are some of the photos I produced

Mid Life Crisis?
Ok so I have been lagging on my blogging. I haven't blogged in two weeks. During this time I was laid off of my job which has been pretty hard for me. Thrown me off a bit since my mother lost her job as well so I'm hanging on by a string right now. In the process I've been trying to concentrate on my school work which has been a little distracting, hence my lack of blogging, but I'm doing the best I can. This past week I had a chance to visit a professional photographer's studio. It was an eye opening experience. I honestly was listening to him talk about the expense and financial part of owning the studio but all I could think about was how much I still have yet to learn. I'll be honest I was a bit intimidated, but excited as well. I could see myself doing it but I realized I have a long way to go. This is a scary realization for someone who is 25 and still has no degree or work experience in this field. But I'm in the holiday spirit right now and honestly my mood is higher than ever. I know I have a lot of work to do but I'm confident I can do it. Now that I have free time and ::crosses fingers:: getting unemployment, I'm thinking of going on a mission to getting a job or finding a studio of any type to go work for free. Ambition...on a mission for ambition.

A Week in the Life of Poor ME
This week was crazy for me, but then again they are always crazy. In my Photography Seminar we had to keep a log of how we spent our time for the week so we can better utilize our time. This really isn't as easy for me because I have no time. So this is how I spent my week and used my time...
Monday- After class lets out at 11am on Monday I went home to have some lunch and get my things together. I left at 12:30 to go do a photoshoot out in Huntington Village near my job for my Digital 1 class. I shot until work started at 2 pm. I work until about 10:30pm and it takes me about a half hour to get home. Between 11pm-12am I am getting ready for the bed and the next day. Then it's sleep time.
Tuesday- I wake up at 8:30 am and I'm in class by 9:30 until 1:00pm, two classes. I then grab some lunch and head into work at 2pm....repeat, exept I stay awake until 1 am watching some TV before sleep.
Wednesday- I wake at 9:30 am and I am at my Grandmother's house by 10:30 to take her to do laundry. This lasts until about 1 pm and I grab lunch and head to work....repeat again.
Thursday- I wake at 8:30 am and my day goes exactly like Tuesday except I'm in bed by 12am.
Friday- I wake at 9 am and I start my 3 1/2 hour math class at the Ammerman Campus at 9:30. I live in Farmingville so it takes me only 5 min to drive there. When I get out at one, I go home for lunch and then off to work. After work I go out to the Village for a friends Birthday and I'm home and asleep by 3am.
Saturday- I sleep in a little today because well, I rarely ever get to and I'm really tired at this point. I work Monday through Friday from 2pm-10:30pm and now I have to work extra shifts on the weekend. I live in an apartment with my Mother and we share the bills. So today I sleep in and when I wake up at 11 am I take my mother for a job interview. Until about 3pm, I try to read for my online English class and log on to post discussions. Around 3pm, my mother and I go to Kmart and start to shop for Christmas. This turns into a four hour event becasue the layaway department is swamped and no one seems to know why the computers keep freezing! OY! Now after this I need a coffee break so at 7 pm I meet a friend at Starbucks, grab a latte and it's home again to clean up the house and do some reading in between. I leave to go do an overnight shift at work at 9:30pm and as I start work at 10 pm I realize it's daylight savings and I'm stuck there an extra hour.
Sunday- My shift ends at 8am and I drive home dangerously exhausted and I pass out at 9am, clothes still on and all. I sleep solid right through until 3 pm when I wake to get ready to go back in and work 4-10pm. During this time I have to deal with more drama at work than my mind is alert for. I work in a homeless shelter. After work, I stop off at Grandma's to take out her garbage and make it home to be in bed by 12am again....
Rinse and Repeat for another work week. =(

Relaxing
I had a relaxing weekend. I took off work Friday and had a weekend to myself with no work or school work. Friday I went to the lab to catch up on some work but realized I left my portable hard drive in my Digital 1 class on thursday. I hope someone turned it in. In my photography seminar we had to pick a magazine we might like to work for and shoot for one day. I picked Vanity Fair. We had to shoot a photo we think would be featured or picked to go in the magazine
I thought this picture could be a good ad for maybe a mascara.

Productive Weekend
This week was a bit crazy for me. I missed school from being sick. Sometimes I wonder if I will ever get better. So now I'm trying to catch up on things. I've had to do many shooting assignments. One was Depth of Field and I wound up taking some great shots but during the transfer onto my computer I lost all my good ones. Go figure so I did a reshoot but did not get that many great images. Above are my favorites.
As much as I love taking photos, I love to edit them. Over this weekend I shaved my head. It was a whim of a decision but I did it because I have the balls to do it and I look ok. This is a photo I took of myself with a camera phone with an overhead lighting in my bathroom. I then used a photo editing software to make it black and white and played with my exposure and contrast level
Im my Photography Seminar we had to buy a magazine that we would maybe one day like to shoot for. I purchased Vanity Fair. I like fashion photogrpahy and I'm amazed by all the great photos there are of different celebrities. I am gaining knowledge everyday on how to take great photographs and I hope one day my photos will be just as worthy.

BEHIND
Soooo....I'm falling a little behind again. I'm just so damn tired I think. Missed three classes last week. My days consist of waking up at 8 am and going to sleep at 12am. Going to school full time and working full time is rough. I'm feeling it, but like all things it must be done. I am late on an assignment for my Digital Materials class and I'm shooting for my Digital one class. We had to do depth of field and I took some nice shots. I'm still havingttrouble knowing what aperature I should be in in certain lighting conditions but I'm learning. This is one shot I took.
I'm also having trouble being able to comment on other blogs. Anyone have any suggestions?

MOTION AGHHHH
Ok soooo the last assignment I was given in my Digital 1 class was to capture motion and on my first trial run I completely bombed at it. I tried today to shoot my landlords kids in their dance outfits outside and it was all wrong take a look
As you can see, the lighting is off, My fstop/shutter speeds weren't right. This is all just frustrating me. I'm still trying to learn all this stuff. I enjoy it I do, I'm just getting frustrating. Those of you who read this, I hope you find my misery humourous. I need to find some photo friends. You'd think, I go to school and in classes with all photo majors, I'd make some friends. I need to be more friendly. Any takers?
On a lighter note, I'm pretty caught up with all my school work. That's always a good feeling. Trying to figure out how to use photoshop is crazy. It's a like a foreign language to me. But I hope as my time at SCCC goes on I learn all the tools I need to, to be able to take better photos than the ones above and hopefully find a friend =P

Sunday Funday
I'm still trying to catch up on all the school work Ive missed from when I was sick. I havent been able to go to the lab at school due to work and then my job cuts my hours. I'm getting very frustrated lately. My third shooting assisgnment has been assigned and I still havent made my contact sheets for the first one. Ok so its time to take a breather. My second shooting assignment was to concentrate on shooting lines shapes and textures. I concentrated a lot shooting plants. Closeups on them. I'm still learning how to use my camera and determining what the right f stops and shutter speeds work best. My next assignment is motion and we have to shoot an athlete or dancer which is going to be a challenge for one becasue I don't know any. I'm uploading some picturees from the last two shoots I did. Any feedback would be appreciated

The Beginning
I am 24 years old and I've decided that I want to start my life. Which brings me here to Suffolk County Community College and going for a AA in Photographic Imaging. I've always loved photography. The power of a photo is incredible. It makes a person feel, respond, and act. I love to create beauty. In this world full of negative, a photo can bring so much positive. I know that I want to be doing something along the line of photgraphing people. I recently found out that I do not want to go into advertising. Spending my time taking photos of garbage cans, or pots and pans is not something that appeals to me. But hey thats just me. Paying the bills is important and an inevitable part of life, but I need to be happy in doing so. That is what is important to me. I'm finding my classes here enriching and interesting. I was sick and missed a whole week of school but I am doing my best to catch up. I think what I am expecting out of this blog is to document my journey. This is where I begin and we will just have to see where I end up
